WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU DURING YOUR VISIT

Enjoy your experience! This is a time for you to relax and appreciate healing properties of massage therapy. In order to ensure a quality experience for you, your therapist will speak with you briefly about any special concerns or injuries you may have or have had. We ask that you do not receive a massage if you have a fever or a virus and please be responsible for proper personal hygiene.

Your therapist will leave escort you to a room where you will receive your session. They will prepare your table, then leave the room to allow you to disrobe to your level of comfort. You’ll then lay on the table and cover yourself with the sheet. Your therapist is trained not only in various types of bodywork but in the proper techniques of bodydraping. Breasts and genitalia are required to be covered at all times and are never massaged. Your therapist is trained to respect your boundaries; please respect theirs. Our therapists are instructed on bodywork techniques that can be used for those clients who prefer not to disrobe.

Feel free to communicate with your therapist about the massage. Remember that your therapist is only going to know when to make pressure adjustments to your comfort if you talk with them.

At the completion of your massage, your therapist will leave the room again, giving you privacy once again ending the session. After a great massage remember to tell your friends. The more clients we serve, the more lives will be changed and a happier place we will all have to live. Gift certificates are available and make a perfect present for any occassion.

Are there ever side effects?

There can be side effects. Some pleasant and some not so pleasant. Many clients never experience side effects but they are not uncommon and are generally viewed as a very positive sign that the body is cleansing and detoxifying the system. They can range quite a bit from person to person with some only experiencing one and others more symptoms of cleansing. It is important to pay attention to your body signals and stay in touch with your therapist so you are both aware of the rate of detoxification of the body. That way, if you are detoxifying too quickly, allowances can be made and any adjustments in frequency or amount of work that is done. Signs of detoxification can include but are not limited to:  relaxation, mood changes, increased thirst, rashes, diahrea, vomiting, nausea, and lightheadedness.

What are the benefits?

Increased Range of Motion, relaxation, feeling lighter and less burdened, decrease in pain, increase in activity, deeper and improved sleep time, overall feelings of well-being, increases in overall wellness, and others to name a few.

How can I make the benefits last longer between visits?

This is a popular question that many clients ask and the best answer that our clients have reported is to do your homework assignments and regular daily stretching. Your therapist can give you more specific details for your specific situation and show you the best stretches for your needs, and drink plenty of water in proper proportion to your body. I have a favorite yoga dvd that I do at home when I don’t  have time to go in to a class and it has made all the difference in the world for me. I have a fused back and was told I would have to see a chiropractor for the rest of my life just to maintain normal daily activity but if I do my yoga every day I have gone from needing 4-8 visits a month to…well, I can’t really remember the last time I went! But check and make sure you are doing your part and the benefits of your massages can go from just lasting a day or two to stretching out to a week or more. Some clients have actually reported feeling better up to a month!

What is the difference between a regular massage from a spa and clinically focused massage?

I’m really glad you asked because there is a world of difference in the benefits and effects between the spa/luxury massage and a clinical massage. The work we do here is not focused on luxury although you can experience that sensation too. With a clinical massage you are going to feel a very big difference in the after affects. Our clients typically make comments about feeling freed up from pains and aches that have bothered them their whole lives that they thought they just had to live with disappearing after a varying number of sessions completely after trying all kinds of other things including regular types of massage and not noticing much difference afterwards until they found us here Winning Your Wellness Back Therapeutic Massage in the Shelton Wellness Center. The techniques and tools used to assess and work with each individual makes all the difference. Try it today and see what you think.
